Aqueduct Boutique B&B

Aqueduct Boutique B&B is a hospitality interior project located within a rural setting outside the development zone, in close proximity to the historic aqueducts and overlooking the surrounding Gozo landscape. Originally constructed in the 1960s as a roadside half-way inn and adapted over time, the building was reimagined as a contemporary boutique accommodation offering a sense of retreat while remaining close to Victoria.

The project involved the interior design of the existing structure, developed within the constraints of the original fabric, applicable policies, and regulatory requirements. Working within these parameters, the design approach focused on clarity, restraint, and continuity, allowing the interiors to respond directly to their environmental context rather than compete with it.

The guiding design intent was to create a clean, resort-like atmosphere that connects interior spaces to the surrounding rural landscape. Material choices, colour palettes, and detailing were selected to reinforce a calm and understated environment, framing views outward and enhancing the relationship between the accommodation spaces and their setting.

Rather than relying on overt thematic gestures, the interior design emphasises simplicity and spatial coherence, allowing light, outlook, and material texture to define the character of the spaces. The resulting environment balances comfort and discretion, offering guests a quiet and composed retreat that draws its identity from location rather than applied narrative.

The project demonstrates how thoughtful interior design can transform an existing building into a distinctive hospitality destination, where context, restraint, and atmosphere work together to create a sense of place that is both relaxed and enduring.
