Design Details
C Townhouse is a private residential project located in Qormi, set within a UCA and traditional streetscape. The project comprises a newly built family townhouse, where architectural and interior design were developed in parallel to respond to both the character of the street and the clients’ contemporary way of living.
The architectural intent was to reinterpret traditional façade language while introducing a more open and welcoming internal spatial sequence. From the street, the building maintains continuity with its historic context, while internally the ground floor opens immediately into the main family living areas. This transition establishes a clear spatial hierarchy, with communal spaces at entry level and private accommodation organised on the upper floor, accessed via an open staircase that acts as both circulation and spatial anchor.
Planning policy and height limitations informed the overall massing and street presence of the building. Rather than treating these parameters as constraints, the design uses them to reinforce proportion, rhythm, and alignment within the existing streetscape, ensuring the new intervention sits comfortably within its surroundings while remaining legible as a contemporary home.
Interior design was shaped directly around the family’s lifestyle. The ground floor is conceived as a generous and fluid environment, allowing family members to gather and interact without the space feeling compressed or overly compartmentalised. Material choices and detailing balance contemporary elements with restrained, elegant finishes, creating an interior that feels both personal and timeless.
The architectural design and interior design phases have been completed, with finishing works currently ongoing. Implementation is being undertaken directly by the client, with regular consultation provided by the studio to ensure continuity with the original design intent.
The project exemplifies a client-centred approach to residential design, where architecture and interiors are tailored closely to everyday use, resulting in a home that is specific, considered, and enduring.
