Design Details
House V is a first-floor duplex maisonette located in Siġġiewi, set within a residential context. The project involved the architectural and interior design of a compact residential footprint organised across two levels, developed as a cohesive and unified living environment.
The defining architectural move of the project is the introduction of a double-height space linking the lower and upper levels of the maisonette. This strategy emerged directly from site analysis and spatial constraints, allowing the two floors to read as a single, continuous volume rather than as separate storeys. The vertical connection enhances spatial clarity and orientation, compensating for the limited footprint and reinforcing a sense of openness throughout the home.
Interior design was conceived in parallel with the architectural layout, ensuring continuity between structure, materiality, and use. Warm timber textures, darker-toned marble surfaces, and soft fabrics were combined to create a restrained and timeless interior palette. These elements are further animated by a layered lighting strategy, with suspended fittings emphasising the verticality of the double-height space above the kitchen and dining area and reinforcing the spatial relationship between levels.
The design was shaped closely around the client’s lifestyle and specific brief, with each requested function integrated deliberately into the overall spatial logic. The resulting home achieves a clear flow of use across both levels, ensuring that no space feels residual or secondary, and demonstrating how thoughtful architectural intervention can transform a compact duplex into a cohesive and balanced domestic environment.
