Design Details

Vini e Capricci is a large-scale hospitality and retail interior project located in Xewkija, Gozo, set within a tucked-away corner of an industrial setting. The project involved the complete refurbishment and expansion of an existing, significantly smaller outlet, incorporating adjacent storage spaces and transforming them into a cohesive experiential environment.

The primary challenge of the project lay in reconciling scale, function, and continuity. A wide product range needed to be accommodated without the space reading as storage or conventional retail, while works were carried out within a tight timeframe and with the existing outlet remaining operational. These constraints informed a design approach rooted in sequencing, clarity of movement, and spatial differentiation rather than visual excess.

The core design intent was to choreograph a retail environment as a sequence of experiential spaces, allowing clients to engage with products at their own pace and according to their preferences. Rather than presenting a single homogeneous interior, the project was conceived as a series of interconnected environments, each offering a distinct atmosphere and mode of interaction while remaining part of a unified whole.

Vini e Capricci functions as the primary point of entry and orientation within this sequence, introducing the overall spatial language and guiding movement through the outlet. From here, clients move freely between the Gianfranco Berta Lounge and the Vinoteca Livio Felluga, each space calibrated to a different rhythm and experience. Together, the three interiors form a continuous spatial journey, defined not by separation but by transition.

The project scope included spatial configuration, interior design, and project management, with particular attention given to circulation, material continuity, and lighting as tools to structure experience. The resulting environment is not conceived as a place for transactional purchase, but as an immersive setting where products are discovered, experienced, and appreciated over time.

Vini e Capricci demonstrates how a retail programme can be transformed into an architectural experience, where space, sequence, and atmosphere work together to redefine how clients interact with product and place.
